Year 2 Outdoor Learning

For outdoor learning today, we did science.

Our key question that we had to investigate was "Which materials are waterproof?"

A selection of materials items were laid out for us to use. They were made of lots of different materials such as paper, nylon and wool

Firstly, we predicted whether we thought each material would be waterproof or not. We made our predictions by using our prior knowledge and feeling each item. We discussed this in our groups and explained reasons for our thoughts.

In our groups, we replicated rain by using water pistols and firing water at each item. We observed closely to see how the water reacted on each item. We noticed that the water appeared to run off the waterproof items, whereas the non waterproof items seemed to absorb the water and the insides became wet. We recorded our results in a table.

What waterproof materials can you find at home?
