Astro Camp 2024, by Mrs Kisby

Date: 22nd Mar 2024 @ 8:13am

Lift off - 1pm March 14th 2024 - saw year 5 launch into Astro Camp 2024. The children were able to take part in a range of space themed activities to deepn their knowledge and understanding of the planets and the wider universe. We were excited to be able to borrow the planetarium from Edgehill University so that the children could observe the milky way and look closely at stars and constellations. The children created and luanched their own rockets, ran through space and time during orienteering, dropped meteroites and measured the impact of these on a planets surface, closely study the surface of the moon and create a moonsaic and even find out their age on different planets within our solar system. The event was topped off with a film and then out to camp. The weather wasn't at its best but the children were amazing. Well done Year 5, what a superb event.

F2 Books for Bedtime event., by Miss Birch

Date: 8th Feb 2024 @ 9:13am

“Being read to provides comfort for children, improving their concentration and focus. Being read to gives children knowledge to understand and talk about the world around them. When children understand what is being read this helps them understand how words, phrases and sentences are put together.” Gov.uk Help for Early Years Providers.

At St Georges reading is at the heart of our curriculum and all of our children have access to a range of high quality literature. We read a decodable book once a day in our phonic sessions and take one home each Friday alongside a story book for our grown ups to read to us. This week we have enjoyed our 'Books for Bedtime' event when we learnt all about the importance of reading. We come into school in the evening wearing our pyjamas and got cosy under the twinkling fairy lights. We then enjoyed listening to storys with props, puppets and masks. We even have a yummy hot chocolate and biscuit.

Parking Watch at Topsite!, by Miss M Jones

Date: 23rd Nov 2023 @ 9:37am

Topsite's Eco Council were out in full force on Tuesday afternoon! With the help from our Active Travel Officer, Chris Malburn, we created a tally to spot parking that was great and that could be better. We will be hosting another parking watch event next week to gather more data!

Chris commented, "Many thanks to the pupils from St George’s topsite who joined me to review the parking situation on the roads outside of the school site at the end of the school day. The pupils learned about what parking restrictions mean, and some of the ways they can protect people. We then walked along Claremount Road to survey how well cars were parked, ranking them as “good”, “bad”, and “could be better”. On the whole parking was mostly good, but many pupils had gone home early due to activities going on in school. We will be comparing this to a more usual day in the coming weeks, and reporting back"

Football teams' fundraiser for damaged defibrillator, by Mrs Walters

Date: 19th Oct 2023 @ 12:49pm

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who donated to this fundraiser. The club has reached the £1,000 target and is now waiting to have the defib machine fitted.

A member of our staff team is raising funds to replace a vital defibrillator, which had the battery stolen, leaving it unusable.

John Evans, St George’s Finance and Office Manager, is a football coach with the Cheshire Girls Football League Wirral.

For the last five years they have had a defibrillator on hand and readily available for anyone to use at Arrowe Park playing fields, where it can be instantly accessed should the need arise.

They were absolutely horrified on Saturday 14th October to discover someone had stolen the battery pack that provides the power in case of emergency use.

The battery can only be accessed by removing the unit from its zipped up case and deliberately releasing it via a catch. The battery pack itself is of no use as it only fits the defibrillator but costs £280 to replace.

John said: “We are truly astonished at the depths someone has plunged to. The thought that someone has been so callous as to prevent the operation of life saving equipment goes beyond all understanding!!

The teams that use the playing fields are now raising funds to replace the defibrillator and add a special case to keep it safer.
