Our St George's News items
The Return of the Christmas Fair!, by Mr Nathan
Date: 9th Dec 2022 @ 9:09pm
A lot has changed since St George's last Christmas Fair.
Covid was barely a word. Liverpool hadn't won their 20th league title yet. Australian soap, Neighbours, was still a thing.
A covering of snow meant that the Christmas Fair possessed that authentic winter feel. It was incredible to witness so many members of our community at the fair, enjoying the Christmas spirit by joining in games, activities, getting faces painted, listening to our wonderful choir, purchasing items from our numerous stalls and indulging in hot food and refreshments. We also had a visit from Santa and his elves - amazing!
A genuine and heartfelt thank you to our school community for attending our Christmas Fair. Much gratitude must be given for the efforts of our PTA, volunteers and school staff. They all contributed to ensuring that our first Christmas Fair for three years was an overwhelming success.
Y4/5 Eco Council - 4ward Futures, by Miss M Jones
Date: 9th Dec 2022 @ 2:02pm
Y4/5 Eco children are taking part in an exciting sustainability campaign to create a sustainable life on Earth. This project will run throughout this academic year. Our initial meeting was yesterday!
Mark, from 4ward Futures, outlined the project and the three elements:
- What exactly is "waste" and the impact of: fast fashion/electronic products/single use plastic? Why do we create so much waste?
- What is being done to address these challenges? What happens to our waste?
- Who is working to address these challenges? How can we reduce the amount of waste we create?
Further workshops will take place from January 2023, eventually leading up to a school exhibition.
Here are some of our first thoughts!

Eco Council in the Community, by Miss M Jones
Date: 9th Dec 2022 @ 1:44pm
On Wednesday, some of Topsite Eco Council enjoyed a brilliant morning session with local rangers in Harrison Park!
During the walk down, we took our brand new litter pickers and litter hoops to collect rubbish on our pavements.
When we arrived at Harrison Park, rangers explained the differences between the tree whips, and showed us the spray-painted dots which indicated where we were to dig.
By the end of the morning, we had planted 315 trees! This will eventually grow into an edible hedgerow!
Well done to our Eco Council, and a huge thank you to our parent volunteers who gave up their morning to help out!

Date: 8th Dec 2022 @ 1:27pm
Miss Lewis, Miss Pickering, Miss Jones and Mr Cassidy were joined by 25 of our Y5 and Y6 children last night and enjoyed a night out in Liverpool! They attended the Everyman Theatre where they thoroughly enjoyed a pantomime performance of the Rock 'N' Roll production of Red Riding Hood. En route, they got to sample the Liverpool Christmas lights and were in joyful spirits - Mr Cassidy even treated the children and staff to a McDonald's!
Regarding the show itself, the children and staff were wowed by the story of Red Riding Hood - Everyman style! There were outlandish and sparkling costumes, a number of plot twists and surprises, in a show that was bursting with musical hits performed by a supremely-talented cast of actor musicians. For many of our children, it was their first foray into a theatre and a moment that will certainly live long in the memory.

Y5/6 Watercolour Workshop - Our Masterpieces!, by Miss M Jones
Date: 7th Dec 2022 @ 11:50pm
On Tuesday, the final workshop for watercolours was held for Year 5 & 6 children and their adults.
Once again, we were provided with delectable hot chocolate and, this time, festive gingerbread men! Thanks again to our fabulous catering team
During the session last week, we learned about and practised many different watercolour skills & techniques. This week, we used this prior knowledge to create a fantastic final piece. The choice was between a landscape effort, or an abstract wonder!
Adults & children were given a watercolour paint palette, an array of different brushes, cartridge paper, masking tape, oil pastels and salt in order to be successful during the session.
First, our pairs scanned QR codes around the room to delve into the world of famous artists using watercolour as their medium. We used these images as inspiration to draw upon when creating our final piece. We also had real life landscapes in our packs that we could use as a basis for our initial sketch.
Our final pieces turned out incredible! Adults/children were so proud of their efforts. They left the session with an art goody bag to keep practising the skills at home.
Thanks again to our adults and pupils for attending, and for their continued support. We will be running more art workshops in the new year - keep an eye out for details of these sessions in due course!

5A exploring air resistance, by Mrs Dures
Date: 6th Dec 2022 @ 9:07am
What a fantastic exploration lesson we had!
During our science lesson this week, we explored air resistance. We worked in groups to come up with our own experiment on parachutes. Each group chose the variables they would keep the same and the one they would change and explore. Some of us changed the surface area, the weight, the length of the string and the height from which they were dropped.
I loved watching the children become scientists, using amazing investigation skills and using all the vocabulary they have learnt about forces.
Well done, 5A!
Mrs Dures
