This week we have had 23 visiting educators from schools in Italy and Malta. We have been working on an international project to develop the use of story telling. During this visit they have been able to observe English lessons across the school. They were so impressed with the standard of reading and writing from our children and also commented on their excellent communication skills. Our children were able to talk, in detail, about how they learn at St George's and what they love most about reading and writing. Throughout the week we were given so much feedback about the high standards of behaviour and the engagement from our pupils. We felt extremely proud of our children and our staff. What a great community to  be part of!

Science of Behaviour Workshop, by Miss M Jones

Date: 6th Jul 2022 @ 11:49pm

Year 5 Eco councillors were very excited to have taken part in the pilot scheme: The Science of Behaviour.

The workshop took place at the Start Yard centre in Birkenhead and looked at how behaviour patterns influence our choices and society.

The students then applied what they had learnt to create a behaviour change campaign around plastic use in school. The scheme is due to carry on next year as our Year 5 children become Year 6, and will look at how we can implement changes within our school and locality.

All in all, a very thought-provoking morning!

Visit to Chirk Castle, by Miss M Jones

Date: 6th Jul 2022 @ 11:25pm

Some Year 5 and 6 pupils were fortunate enough to experience the delights of Chirk Castle on Saturday!

The sun was shining and the exploration was in full-swing as we turned into tourists for the day.

Chirk Castle was built around 1295, by Roger Mortimer de Chirk, during the reign of King Edward I. It features a Long Gallery, the Chapel Music room, and a whopping 5.5 acres of beautifully maintained gardens!

We delved into the dungeons, strolled around the state rooms and marvelled at the magnificent scenery!

4E were so inspired by their poet visit last week! They have all written their own fantastic poems themed around the sea. At top site today, they began to practise performing their poems. They thought carefully about how a good performance poet uses their voice, face and body to entertain their audience. They then performed their poems in a place of their choice outdoors. Click on the videos to be amazed!

Year 4/5 Football Team Report, by Mr Knowles

Date: 28th Jun 2022 @ 5:01pm

Over the last two Mondays, some of our Year 5 children (and 1 year 4 child) have been able to play some friendly matches against Liscard Primary and New Brighton Primary School.

The boys played a tough match against New Brighton Primary first and drew the game 1-1.

In the second fixtures, 20 players were split into 2 teams to play against Liscard. Both of the teams managed to win their games, scoring plenty of excellent goals in the process.

While we are really proud of the boys footballing performance, we are more impressed with the sportsmanship, teamwork and conduct as part of the team. They represented St George's brilliantly and we look forward to more fixtures next year.
