2B & 2C's trip to Birkenhead Park, by Miss Gough-Hughes

Date: 29th Mar 2023 @ 9:54am

2B & 2C had an excellent time at Birkenhead Park, despite the incredibly wet weather we had. During the day, we met the park ranger Hannah, who gave us some maps and taught us how to use these to make our way to different locations around the park. We had to try to spot where the different photographs were taken, during our orienteering experience. We also got to visit the onsite forest school with our forest school leader Miss Nall. We had great fun in the forest, searching for minibeasts in their microhabitat, explaining what conditions these microhabitats had, building our own microhabitat and even doing some pond dipping. The highlight of our forest school visit was sliding around in the mud and getting very dirty due to the bad weather. A big thank you to the parents who helped us on our trip, despite the rain!

2A and 2D Trip to Birkenhead Park, by Mrs Cameron-Ivanov

Date: 27th Mar 2023 @ 4:03pm

We have had an excellent day out at Birkenhead Park. Our day invloved lots of exciting activities, inclduing time in forest school where we hunted for mini-beasts, made micro-habitats and even did some pond dipping! We also completed an orienteering course where we followed a map around the park to see if we could spot where certain photographs had been taken.

We hope you enjoy looking through our photographs.

Year 2 - British Science Week, by Miss Gough-Hughes

Date: 16th Mar 2023 @ 3:49pm

The year two's have had a great week celebrating science week. They have enjoyed using the iPad's to research food chains and read science books to help them sort images of animal food chains. Additionally, they have loved finding out about different scientists and drawing a scientist, recognizing that anybody can be a scientist. One of the best parts, was our science ambassadors bravely stepping up in front of their class, to teach the other children about different innovations throughout the year. Well done science ambassadors!

Year 1 and 2 Oracy Showcase - Human Rights, by Mrs Cameron-Ivanov

Date: 14th Mar 2023 @ 10:53am

Over the last couple of weeks, year 1 and 2 have been learning about Human Rights. We know that these are rights that everyone has, just for being human.

Each year group chose a human right to focus on. Year 1 did "Everyone has the right to a job", and wrote poems called "When I Grow Up", a line in their poems said "I'll work and learn until it's my turn, to find the right job for me"

Year 2 did "Everyone has the right to rest and leisure". Their poems had the title "If I were in charge of the World" and listed all the things we'd like to get rid of, and all the games and leisure we would like to have more of.

Within our classes, we put together a poem based on our chosen right, we then rehearsed and performed them in our classes and had a vote for the group that demonstrated the best oracy skills. We focused on physical oracy: taking clearly, gesture and posture, speed and volume of talk and expression in our voices.

The chosen groups from each class then performed their poem in front of all of year 1 and 2 in the hall for our Oracy Showcase. We invited some year 3 children to come and judge our showcase, and they gave each group excellent feedback based on our oracy framework.

Each group worked really hard on their performance and we could tell they had been practising.
The winning class for year 2 was 2A, and the winning class for year 1 was 1C. They will be taking part in a school wide oracy showcase, with children from F2 to 6, and will perform their poems at our local church.

Date: 14th Feb 2023 @ 11:29am

One of our year 3 pupils had an amazing time a few weeks ago after he and his dad entered a competition in September to win tickets to Quatar for the world cup final. The runner ups won the chance to play alongside an England legend.

Parker had a fantastic time training with Emile Heskey and met some of the England trainers. He also had the opportunity to tour the training pitches and use the hydrotherapy pools in the facility.

He came home with a signed England shirt which he will treasure.

The Return of the Christmas Fair!, by Mr Nathan

Date: 9th Dec 2022 @ 9:09pm

A lot has changed since St George's last Christmas Fair.

Covid was barely a word. Liverpool hadn't won their 20th league title yet. Australian soap, Neighbours, was still a thing.

A covering of snow meant that the Christmas Fair possessed that authentic winter feel. It was incredible to witness so many members of our community at the fair, enjoying the Christmas spirit by joining in games, activities, getting faces painted, listening to our wonderful choir, purchasing items from our numerous stalls and indulging in hot food and refreshments. We also had a visit from Santa and his elves - amazing!

A genuine and heartfelt thank you to our school community for attending our Christmas Fair. Much gratitude must be given for the efforts of our PTA, volunteers and school staff. They all contributed to ensuring that our first Christmas Fair for three years was an overwhelming success.

Year 2 Visit Wallasey Village United Reformed Church, by Mrs Cameron-Ivanov

Date: 29th Nov 2022 @ 3:41pm

This week, year 2 have visited one of our local churches to learn all about the significance of Christingle.

To begin, the children discussed and recapped the Christmas story and the key characters from it. All of the children then got to make their very own Christingle before learning about what each part of it represents. Next we sang some beautiful hymns and finally we lit our Christingle and had a short prayer.

The children got to bring their Christingle back to class, as well as a lovely Christmas gift bag from the church.

A huge thank you to Jeff and everyone at WVURC for making our visit so enjoyable and very interesting!

Year 2 Choir at St Hilary, by Mrs Cameron-Ivanov

Date: 27th Nov 2022 @ 5:52pm

The year 2 choir have had a fantastic evening singing at St Hilary's for the Christingle Service. We sang 4 beautiful songs, and even did Makaton sign language to Silent Night. It was wonderful to see the smiles on everyone's faces as the children took to the stage.

During the service, children also followed a star which led them to passages from The Bible which revealed parts of the nativity story. We also discovered the meaning behind the Christingle and how it symbolises Christ as the light of the world. Finally, all of the children received their own Christingle and we lit them, dimmed the lights and sang a hymn. It was beautiful.

Thank you to all at St Hilary's, especially Alan and Caroline.

What a wonderful way to start our festive celebrations!

Well done Year 2 Choir!

Year 1 and 2 Reading Ambassadors Visit Bear Hunt Books, by Mrs Horton

Date: 24th Nov 2022 @ 4:19pm

What a lovely afternoon year 1 and 2 reading ambassadors have had! Last week they had a meeting in their classes to discover which books the children like to read. They created a list of books to try and find at the book shop. It was great fun finding their books and they picked some extras up too. We also found some lovely Christmas story books for the children to enjoy over the Christmas period.

Michelle, from Bear Hunt Books, was very helpful. After the children had selected all of their books she made them a lovely cup of hot chocolate and read them a stroy.

The children loved taking their new books back to share with the children in school.

Date: 6th Nov 2022 @ 4:21pm

We have had a wonderful afternoon at the Floral Pavilion watching a brilliant performance of The Tiger Who Came to Tea, based on the book by Judith Kerr.
We love the story and it was magical to see it brought to life. We all joined in with different parts of the show, a song and even some tiger aerobics!

Sisters take on a steep challenge for charity, by Mrs Walters

Date: 11th Oct 2022 @ 3:58pm

Two of our amazing children have taken on a major challenge by running up one of the steepest hills in Wallasey 100 times to raise money for charity!

Penny and Lois Conroy have raised more than £450 so far by running up Portland Street and only have 15 runs left to make it to the 100 mark!

All the money raised is for a charity set up by a family friend with bowel cancer and they hope to hit their £500 target soon.

Their friend, Danny De Brabander was diagnosed with stage 4 Bowel Cancer but has set up a charity, Team DDB, to help other people with cancer and has raised almost £100,000.

If you would like to donate some money to their challenge you can visit their Crowdfunder website at:

For more information about Team DDB and the remarkable work they carry out please visit Team.DDB on Facebook.

Date: 10th Oct 2022 @ 4:17pm

Today, the year two children had lots of fun celebrating hello yellow for World Mental Health Day. We've had lots of discussions today about why we are celebrating the day and how it's important to understand our own mental health. The children enjoyed creating positive affirmation cards for their friends, telling some jokes and making others smile throughout the day.

Please see Seesaw for an optional home learning task if you'd like to complete more activities at home.

Well done year two!

Foyle Foundation Funding Success!, by Mrs Taylor

Date: 29th Sep 2022 @ 12:34pm

Last week, we were fortunate enough to secure a £10,000 grant from the Foyle Foundation for new books for school. We are thrilled to have been selected and have already made big plans with some of our Reading Ambassadors as to how to spend it. These plans include new texts for class and unit libraries, trips to bookshops for our Reading Ambassadors and opportunities for outdoor reading spaces to enjoy at break and lunch times.  Keep an eye out for our newest and most exciting texts over the next few months.

We would just like to emphasise our gratitude to the Foyle Foundation for this fantastic opportunity - it really will make a difference to our children.

Community Garden August Workshop, by Mrs Cameron-Ivanov

Date: 5th Aug 2022 @ 1:57pm

We have had a lovely morning working in our Will Allen Community Garden. Thankfully, the weather brightened up and we were able to complete plenty of jobs, including weeding, checking for signs of pests, picking and harvesting our fruit and veg, and the best bit, getting to sample what we had grown.

We enjoyed a delicious brunch, where we sampled some homemade stewed rhubarb, apple conserve and mixed berry compote, as well as strawberries and raspberries.

Our most successful crops this year have been rhubarb, apples, lettuce, parsley and green beans. All the families who joined us were able to take home what we had grown, and we can't wait to see what tasty meals they make with them.
