Road Safety Week at St George's

Road safety week was a huge success at St George's.

Children and families really engaged with all our events.  On Wednesday we anticipated 50 children taking part in the bling your ride/shoes competition from Wirral Council and 250 turned up.  This was an amazing level of support and resulted in temporary bike and Scooter parks being set up across the school and Mr Cassidy having to find an additional 80 prizes.

  • Huge thanks to our ECO council for organizing the really popular reflective snapbands and clips sales (had to reorder).
  • Catering team for preparing 200 breakfasts (ran out on both days)
  • Road safety team and staff for making sure everything ran smoothly (despite the huge turnout).

Our ECO team and road safety team really appreciated the support from Chris Malburn, Active Travel officer from Wirral Council with assemblies, parking watch and our Wheelie/Walk breakfasts.  Chris commented:

“I was very happy to see so many pupils at lower site and topsite taking part in all of the activities that were organised as part of St George’s Active Travel Week. Well done to everyone who blinged their bike, scooter, skateboard, or wheelchair, and especially the prize winners. I’m delighted to see that St George’s shares our aims to encourage walking, cycling, and scooting to school, as well as educating pupils to allow them to do so as safely as possible. The Road Safety & Active Travel team at Wirral Council were also pleased to work with the school on a parking survey and to provide a road safety session to all pupils in years 5 and 6, which will be taking place this week and next. The staff at St George’s all did an amazing job organising the events, including the Bling Your Ride, Wheelie Breakfast, and the Active Travel stall.”
