Promoting Equality at St George's

Governors and senior leaders are fully committed to promoting equality at St George's.  We want to ensure that nobody faces discrimination whether that is a pupil, a member of staff, a parent or visitor to our school.

Celebrating diversity and challenging prejudice is a key part of our school’s work.  It is a moral and legal expectation.  OFSTED and the Department for Education charge our school leaders and governors with the responsibility to ensure that the diversity in our children, families, staff and the wider community is celebrated and safeguarded.

Our school community has diversity links through race, gender, LGBT community, religious links, cultural links, disability and community interests.  We want to be known as a school that values diversity but is also firm on our stance against prejudice in any way.

We are also strengthening our equality links through curriculum work (International Women's Day, Fair Trade, Religious Studies, Diversity Week RESPECT Heroes etc).  We are also:

  • Show Racism the Red Card Campaign member
  • Alliance for Inclusive Education member (promoting disability rights)
  •

In May 2018 we became a school ambassador for Wirral's Red Heart Campaign to promote respect, diversity and equality.  Campaign works to promote 5 key pledges.

  • I will always treat others how I wish to be treated!
  • I will always be supportive of differences I do not understand
  • I will always appreciate and celebrate diversity and our cultural differences
  • I will always look for ways to support my fellow citizens and help whenever I can
  • I will not look the other way if I witness hatred or discrimination

Pledges have been undertaken by staff, governors, children and our families.  Anybody can make the pledge by following the link below:

We want to work with our families on promoting the diversity of our community.  We are planning to host assemblies, cultural days and create a diversity celebration board in our main hall(s).  If you would like us to celebrate any links with your family/community please  contact Mrs Susan Walters, P.A to the Senior Leadership Team.  Susan's e-mail address is; susan.walters@stgeorges.wirral.sch.uk

Our reporting and planning ensures that we focus on how our provision impacts on different groups.  Please see Governing Body statutory reports for more information.

Please tell us if there are any adjustments we need to make to help you support your child, for example: letters in large font; letters in different languages; wheelchair access; explaining things over the phone; a discussion with a school colleague of the same gender or involvement of an interpreter.

Attached is our Equality Policy.  Other equality issues are so addressed in our Sepecial Education Needs pages:

If you have any questions about these issues please refer your questions to Mrs Susan Walters, P.A to the Senior Leadership Team.  Susan's e-mail address is; susan.walters@stgeorges.wirral.sch.uk
