Well done to gymnast Gabriella!, by Mrs Walters

Congratulations to year 6 pupil Gabriella who competed in the British Tumbling Championships in Birmingham at the weekend.
Gabriella took part in the youth category for ages 10-12 and having just turned 10 was placed a fantastic 17th out of 27.
Gabriella, her coaches and her family are very proud - the event was amazing, great fun and she was thrilled to represent Wirral Gymnastics Club in her first British champions competition.
Friends and family were able to support her by watching the live link at home.

Year 5 have settled brilliantly into the start of the year and are already focused and showing resilience and determination with their learning.
In art this term we are using our science topic of space to create Geometric Wave vessels. In Art we used our subject knowledge, VR and inspiration from Rachel Maiden (marbling artist) and Miguel Claro (Astrophotographers) to create nebulas on a digital app called Brushes Redex,

Fantastic Florals at RHS Flower Show, Tatton Park, by Miss M Jones

Back in February, St. George's were successful in our application to display at Tatton Park's annual flower show - RHS Flower Show Tatton Park.
The hard work began: researching, desgining, planting and building galore! Our garden was a wondrous delve into the mystical, literary world of J. R. R. Tolkien, and included aspects from two of his most famous works, The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings. With expert guidance from Miss J Jones and Miss Pickering, we decided that our garden should be a biodiverse haven: attracting as many different species of wildlife as possible. With funds we had raised, we were able to source verbena, cosmos, germanium, chamomile, salvia, grasses, echinacea, sanguisorbe, achillea, rubeckea, borage, stock and lobelia to make our design a reality! We also procured the skills of local artist, Barry Canning-Eaton (Mermaid Trail sculptor) to construct a flower-breathing dragon of epic proportions!
RHS Flower Show is on at Tatton until 5pm Sunday 23rd July. If you're able to pop along, make sure you keep a look out for our display behind the Schools Tent!
Road to the Open - Competition, by Mr Knowles

As part of The Road to The Open, 6 of our Year 5 children took part in a golf competition this morning at Arrowe Park Golf Course.
The children were magnificent. They represented St George's excellently and their behaviour and sportsmanship was exemplary.
We are very proud of them all.

St George's hosted a successful training session last week for Crumble Controllers.
School staff were joined by teams from other local primary schools and Teach Computing Cheshire and Wirral.
The company took to Twitter to say a big thank you.

Yesterday, after school, some of our Year 5/6 Cross Country Club took part in a race event at New Brighton Dips. The group have been working hard with their coach (Chris) over the past weeks to increase their stamina and work on pacing over long distances.
The children showed grit and determination on a windy day and all competed excellently individually. We also entered a team into the Year 6 relay which consisted of 2 of our Year 5 runners too!
We are looking forward to more Cross Country races next Year.
Well done to you all, we are very proud.

Clean Air Day Conference 2023, by Miss M Jones

St. George's have marked Clean Air Day 2023 by attending a very prestigious event - Clean Air Day Conference - at Eureka! Science & Discovery.
We were given a slot of time in the their theatre, presenting to other schools, companies, members of the council - and even the Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Jerry Williams!
Within our presentation, we showcased all of the fantastic eco work we have carried out this academic year. After this, we outlined our new project in collaboration with Professor Thanh from Liverpool John Moore's University: the Smart Green Journey app.
The children presented with great confidence. After listening to all of the school projects, we had a look around Eureka and visited a few workshops led by Asthma UK, Living Streets, and Lynn Struve.

St. George's have been invited to take part in an exciting partnership with Liverpool John Moore's University trialling their new app, 'Smart Green Journey'. The app works a little like the fitness app, Strava, by tracking all of the journeys we make (on foot and by vehicle). The app cleverly converts the kilometres travelled into CO2 emissions created, so we can see for ourselves our own carbon footprint and the impact we are having on the planet, making us more mindful about the journeys we take! We are aiming for as many people to join our school in the challenge to reduce our emissions. Below is an infographic, explaining how to download the app and join the challenge. Good weather helped children and staff enjoy their last day in York. Early breakfast was followed by a walk along the River Ouse, magical visit to York Minster and finally an exploration of the Museum Gardens.

Y5 - York Residential Continues, by Mr Nathan

Group 2 didn't have a spare moment on their first day in York and were on the move non-stop. Meanwhile, Group 1 were welcomed back at St George's yesterday afternoon. Group 2 - at this moment - are sleeping sounding after clocking up the miles and enjoying the sights of York. They finished the evening with a meal and enjoyed a few rounds of mini-golf.

The second group of Year 5 pupils and staff arrived in York amidst a downpour but that didn't dampen anyone's spirits. The children thoroughly enjoyed their initial experience of York and have already participated in a number of activities. The first group are enroute back to Wallasey…

Day 2 in York started off with less-than-enthusiastic weather. Despite the downpour, the children were in great spirits. They enjoyed breakfast, whilst our second group of children left Wallasey in anticipation of the wonders of York.

Year 5 have been busy for the majority of the day - they certainly will sleep well tonight, as will our staff team...
They have continued their initial exploration of York, been back to their accommodation to freshen up, eaten and then played some mini-golf! Amazing!

Year 5 : Getting for the RHS Tatton Park garden show., by Mrs Parker

Today, year five had a great time helping to get things ready for The RHS Tatton flower show garden, which will be built for the show in July. They went outside and drew and studied plants, before foraging in the forest school for twigs. Some children then helped to paint the bug house egg and fill the bee hotel with the twigs they had collected. We all had a great time and enjoyed looking after our mental health and well-being by being close to nature.

Year 5 arrived in York this morning, greeted by glorious sunshine. Their first stop was at their accommodation - swiftly dropping off luggage - before making their way to the Jorvik and DIG centre for a variety of different activities. The children have been impeccably behaved - drawing many a compliment along the way...

VR fun in year 4, by Mrs Walters

Year 4 had a great time using the VR headsets this week to explore the rainforest.
The children used the nunchucks to move around and were able to see all the plants and animals in real life.
Sophia said: 'I enjoyed the VR because it felt like I was in the real world.'
Eliza thought the VR sets were amazing and said: 'You can see lots of different animals, plants and trees and it's really fun.'
Wirral Coastal Walk Success, by Mrs Walters

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Wirral Coastal Walk on Sunday - and thank you to everyone who sponsored our staff team!
They walked the full 12.5 miles to raise money for our year 4 pupil Daisy Scamp's family. Daisy is currently undergoing extensive treatment for Myeloid Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. More than £1,000 has been raised on the Go Fund Me page since half term making the total raised more than £5,200.
One of our year 3 teachers, Mrs Kisby, also took part in a sponsored 100km run throughout May after being challenged by her daughter!
Also thank you to everyone who donated by putting money in the collection buckets last week - we raised a further £250, which is amazing!

5E Geography and Oracy work, by Mr Knowles

This week in 5E, the children have been learning about the geographical features on Sounth America. They used their research and knowledge to model a map out of play dough and locate the different countries.
We have also been using our oracy and drama skills to act out a scene from Wonder. All of the children performed their scene to the rest of the class excellently.
Co-op Funding Boost for Sensory Garden, by Mrs Walters

A huge thank you to the Co-op in Wallasey Village who kindly donated £150 to the PTA from their local community fund.
Store manager Barrie Blythyn presented Mr Nathan and Mrs Roberts with the checque and the money will beused for a sensory garden at upper site.
Mini Police visit to Police Museum, by Mrs Walters

The Year 5 Mini Police Representatives were lucky to be invited to Warrington Police Museum today.
Whilst we were there we learnt about how the police force was developed, the different police ranks and how police uniforms changed over the years.
Our mini police were also very lucky to see some very special exhibitions about different weapons and drugs which have been seized by the police over the years, the police cells used for people who were arrested and we also had the opportunity to sit in a police car and motorbike!

We have been very busy in 5E towards the end of this half term taking part in lots of exciting moments. The children have performed an outstanding violin concert, made some delicious Persian dips, taken part in an outdoor fractions challenge and written some excellent persuasive letters in the last 2 days alone!
RNLI Careers and Safety, by Mrs Coleman

This morning we were lucky enough to have a visit from our local lifeguards.
They talked about their roles in keeping people safe along the coast. The Royal National Lifeboat Institute is funded completely by charity donations and has existed for 199 years!
On the Wirral, we have three lifeboat stations at New Brighton, Hoylake, and West Kirby, as well as six lifeguard stations.
Laurence modelled the red and yellow uniform we should be looking out for if we need help on the coast, and we learned the meanings of the flags:
RNLI FLAG = lifeguards on duty
BLACK AND WHITE FLAGS = surfing/craft area
RED FLAG = no swimming
ORANGE WINDSOCK = no inflatables
RED AND YELLOW FLAG = swimming area
Heidi showed us what we need to do if we fall in, and what we do if we end up in a rip current:
Rip currents look like calm water but has a powerful pull out to sea.
Don't panic;
lie back in a starfish shape;
shout for help;
try to move out of the current sideways - don't swim against it.

Y5&6 Climate Challenge, by Mrs Roberts

On Friday, some of our year 5 and 6 children were invited to the Floral Pavilion to take part in a climate crisis workshop. They were given the challenge of coming up with an innovative idea to help improve the wildlife at school and in our local area. Our fantastic team built on the idea of our sensory garden. They suggested investing in a water butt and compost bin to help with school waste, planting wildlife friendly plants and delivering workshops to the local area to provide education on the climate crisis. All 6 children spoke really articulately infront of the panel of judges. Although they didn't win, their presentation was excellen and the team are excited to share their ideas back at school. Well done everyone!

One of our fabulous year 6 children is raising funds for Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie through Swimathon 2023.
Molly's grandad is currently going through chemotherapy and her family, and St George's, are very proud of her and hope she reaches her £1,500 target.
