Year 4 - Watercolour Masterpieces, by Miss Mulheirn

Date: 19th Oct 2022 @ 2:25pm

This term, the Year 4 pupils have learnt how to successfully work with watercolour. They explored how the amount of water used impacts the quality of the paint before learning to colour mix through layering and mixing. After that, they learnt various watercolour techniques such as flat washes and gradient washes. Next, they studied the artwork of Georgia O'Keeffe, particularly her use of watercolour to paint landscapes. After completing small watercolour studies in the style of O'Keeffe, the children acted upon feedback given from their peers to refine and improve their artwork further. Here are photographs of the pupils creating their final pieces and showing off their marvellous creations!

The World Reimagined - Liverpool City Region Exhibition, by Miss M Jones

Date: 18th Oct 2022 @ 1:39pm

"To create a world that embraces the dignity of all, we must recognise a simple truth: we are our history."
    - The World Reimagined, 2022.

Today, 10 Year 6 pupils joined people from all over Liverpool City Region to celebrate The World Reimagined project. Globes were designed and created by artists & schools to explore our shared history and how we can make racial justice a reality. They are currently on display inside Liverpool Landmark - St George's Hall - under the astonishing ornate ceilings.

St. George's Hall, Liverpool

Our globe follows the theme of Mother Africa, and was completed by our Year 6 children in July. Each class had been given a specific theme to follow: Symbols, Fractals, Icons & Heritage, Fashion, Society, Food & Education, and Storytelling. Within these themes, further concepts (The 5 Cs) were explored:

Compassion: I am able to put myself in someone else’s shoes
Curiosity: I seek additional knowledge through asking thoughtful questions
Courage: I step bravely into issues that are difficult to understand and hard to discuss
Connection: I can draw the threads between the history I learn and today’s reality
Critical Thinking: I use logic to connect the dots. I’m unafraid of reason and challenge

Our pupils interacted with many children and adults while explaining the inspiration behind the globe design, including Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor - Mr. Steve Rotheram.  Furthermore, pupils asked insightful questions and shared feedback with other school and community groups involved in the project.

You can also check out the artist globes digitally here!

The globes will be on display at St. George's Hall until tomorrow, when they will return to their host venues.
Our globe will be housed in Wallasey Central Library until the 31st October, when it will then be given back to us and proudly displayed at Topsite!

Art in 5A has been very exciting this term.

The children have chosen their own theme and came up with a design. This afternoon, we used our practical skills and created a clay vessel each. We have focused on: coiling, pinch pot and slab building.
Our last task will be to paint and evaluate. The final product will come home after half term.
Well done, 5A!

Sisters take on a steep challenge for charity, by Mrs Walters

Date: 11th Oct 2022 @ 3:58pm

Two of our amazing children have taken on a major challenge by running up one of the steepest hills in Wallasey 100 times to raise money for charity!

Penny and Lois Conroy have raised more than £450 so far by running up Portland Street and only have 15 runs left to make it to the 100 mark!

All the money raised is for a charity set up by a family friend with bowel cancer and they hope to hit their £500 target soon.

Their friend, Danny De Brabander was diagnosed with stage 4 Bowel Cancer but has set up a charity, Team DDB, to help other people with cancer and has raised almost £100,000.

If you would like to donate some money to their challenge you can visit their Crowdfunder website at:

For more information about Team DDB and the remarkable work they carry out please visit Team.DDB on Facebook.

6E Make Bread, by Mrs Roberts

Date: 11th Oct 2022 @ 12:09pm

We had great fun this morning tasting and making bread for our science experiment. We began by tasting various types of bread and talking about how preservitves not only enhance the flavour, but make our bread stay fresher for longer. We looked at the textures, smelt the bread and made observations about what else we noticed. We then made loaves of bread in small groups without any preservities in them. We are now going to place slices of our fresh bread around the classroom to see if changes in environment or temperature encougages mould to grow quicker. Some of us think that the warmer the environment, the more mould will grow. Others are going to add moisture to their slices to check if that makes a difference. We are all very excited to see how our experiment turns out!
