Over the last week, they have created fact files in the shape of Queen Elizabeth II, written non-chronological reports about her life and have practised their drawing and shading with some portrait work. Finally, children welcomed pupils from lower site for a celebration of the monarch over the decades. We're really proud of our children's singing this afternoon and how enthusiastically they have engaged in the celebrations. Well done, Year 6!

Some of our eco team from Year 4 had a marvellous day at Castleway for the 2022 Biodiversity Conference! The outdoor event was to raise awareness around local nature and encourage children and their families to explore and protect what they have in their local parks.

The day saw eco teams from lots of visiting schools take part in four rotations of activity so children learned more about nature, which included Wirral’s Wild 50 with Wirral Wildlife Trust, experiencing some forest schools, creating some nature inspired art and helping to make a Parks Passport for families to show highlights in difference areas of the Wirral!

Our Year 4 children learned a lot about fire safety, created some miraculous clay insect sculptures, delved into the world of butterflies, and discussed the importance of pollination.

All in all, an excellent day! They were a credit to the school.

Freestanding Structures in Y1, by Ms C Jones

Date: 26th May 2022 @ 4:19pm

In D and T this half term we have been looking at freestanding structures. As a class we decided to make equipment for a playground. Here are the steps we followed:

  • Select and use tools, skills and techniques, explaining their choices.
  • Select new and reclaimed materials and construction kits to build their structures.
  • Use simple finishing techniques suitable for the structure they are creating.
  • Evaluate their product by discussing how well it works in relation to the purpose, the user and whether it meets the original design criteria

We were stunned their beauty, peacefulness and how much we had to learn from the spectacular buildings. As you would expect, all of Year 4 were praised for their wonderful manners and for being so respectful in places of worship.

Y5 and 6 - Costume ideas for Jubilee celebration, by Mr Nathan

Raid the wardrobes of your parents or grandparents. Delve into your local charity shop for some absolute bargains. Try to recreate the look of your year group's allocated decade - let's see how creative you can be! Should you not be able to locate any vintage wear, style yourself adorning the country's colours - red, white and blue.

The staff from Years 5 and 6 have put together an ensemble of ideas for you to try and recreate for the celebration of the Queen's Jubilee on Friday 27th May.

You can view these ideas below or by perusing the relevant year group's page.

Year 5 Outdoor Learning, by Mrs Cameron-Ivanov

Date: 12th May 2022 @ 10:32am

For our outdoor learning this week, we have been working in our Saxon Camp. We explored what life was like during those times by looking at various jobs people would have had in a Saxon village, and we all had a go at fire lighting.

Later, we compared life as an Anglo Saxon to what life would have been like in Ancient Baghdad. Next, we were posed the question “When would you have rather lived?” We teamed up, depending on our answers and had a debate with the opposing team. Each side gave reasons for when they would have rather lived. Most of us chose life in Ancient Baghdad, as they were much more advanced and sophisticated than the Anglo Saxons!
