Our St George's News items

St George, by Mrs Cameron-Ivanov

Date: 7th May 2022 @ 11:59am

This weekend we had a lovely morning establishing our school community garden. The weather was kind!

We were joined by parents, carers and children from year groups 2 and 3.

Tasks for the morning included, planting pollinators, making wigwams for our sweet peas and beans, digging out and replanting potatoes, building a bird bath, planting a variety of fruit and veg from strawberries to broccoli, courgette to rhubarb and lettuce to tomatoes.

We have also sown a variety of seeds, including carrots, beetroot, onion, spring onion, radish, cauliflower and kale.

Year 4 gardening club and top site dragon club will be maintaining the garden by making sure our plants are well fed and watered throughout the summer term.

We can’t wait to see how our garden develops and enjoy the fruits of our labour!

RNLI Visit to Topsite, by Miss M Jones

Date: 6th May 2022 @ 1:55pm

Topsite were lucky to have a visit from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) on Wednesday! We were told about safety in the water, and what to do if we found ourselves in a difficult situation in the water. We also had discussions on riptides, how to spot a lifeguard and who to call if you spot someone in trouble.

Maggie, from Year 6, said "We learned that spotting two red and yellow flags on the beach tells us that it's safe to swim between these areas."

Year 5/6 Girls Football Success!, by Mr Knowles

Date: 6th May 2022 @ 12:58pm

Huge well done to our Year 5/6 Girls Football team who participated in the Tranmere Rovers U11s Competition last week. The girls played brilliantly and had a great time. Staff members commented on how well the children showed sportsmanship as well as their excellent performances on the pitch.

The team didn't concede a goal throughout the tournament, winning 2 games and drawing 1, but unfortunately missed out on progressing to the final on goal difference. The children should be incredibly proud of their efforts.

Well Done!

Year 3 - River Pollution immersion activity, by Mrs Kisby

Date: 25th Apr 2022 @ 1:13pm

Year 3 started the term off today by observing and discussing the impact of pollution in our rivers.

The children went to the outdoor classroom and observed a range of pollution that was collected from the Rive Mersey. They then thought about how the pollution came to be in the river, the impact this has on the local environment as well as the impact on the creatures that live in the river.

They were left to think about what changes need to be made and how they could use their voice to make the change. This will lead us into our new English unit.

Colomendy 2022, by Miss Hughes

Date: 8th Apr 2022 @ 3:10pm

WOW! What a fantastic two days we've had filled with climbing, team work, and a whole lot of bonding with our friends.

We made the most of every minute there, even trudging through our first day of activites in the hail, with a big smile on our faces. We LOVED hearing the story about Bob around the campire late last night with toasted marshmallows.

Everyone had a different activity that they couldn't stop talking about, from the blindfolded night line, to the collosal Jacob's ladder.

Well done to everyone for being great team players, communicating brilliantly and showing buckets full of resilience!

We hope you have a wonderful and relaxing time off school, and we will see you in two weeks time.

Love, the Year 4 team xx

First Aid Training, by Mr Nathan

Date: 4th Apr 2022 @ 9:49pm

Children on Top Site completed a valuable 'Flat Stan First Aid' session, learning about the following steps:

  • identifying and mitigating potential dangers;
  • calling for help;
  • checking for a response;
  • checking the casualty's airways;
  • checking the casualty's breathing;
  • checking the casualty's circulation.

Hopefully, the children will never need to apply their newly-acquired knowledge, but in the event that they do they should be well-equiped.
