Coming along eggcellently, by Miss Hughes

Date: 4th Nov 2021 @ 3:07pm

After learning about the different types of teeth in our mouths and how we keep our teeth healthy and clean, Year 4 have been putting a few every day liquids to the test.
We wanted to find out the affect different liquids have on our teeth, and how bad full fat drinks really are compared to a more healthy drink option.

Firstly we examined the texture of the eggs and their colour. They were cream in colour and very smooth, very much like our teeth coated in enamel. We made our predictions about what would happen.

After just 24 hours submerged in 2 different liquids (a full fat pop and a semi-skimmed milk) you can already see the difference!

We can't wait to see what happens next!

Outdoor learning, by Miss Hughes

Date: 22nd Oct 2021 @ 2:18pm

Earlier this half term, Year 4 we're learning how to sketch and print landmarks. We have also been looking at famous landmarks in our English and Geography lessons, such as La Sagrada Familia, in Barcelona.

Today, we looked at our very own landmark in Wallasey - our school. We used our observational skills and lightly sketched the outline, before adding greater details, such as our windows, brickwork and tower.

We hope you all have a wonderful half term and continue exploring the outdoors,

4E Outdoor Learning Session with Parents, by Miss Mulheirn

Date: 22nd Oct 2021 @ 11:45am

4E had a wonderful outdoor learning lesson today with their parents! Thank you to everybody who came along.

The children created Autumn inspired artwork using various printing techniques. The teams then went on a leaf hunt and mixed their own autumnal colours using the primary colours. After that, they applied paint around the edges of their leaves, leaving negative space in the shape of their leaf. They then completed their backgrounds, covered the veins of the leaves in paint, and printed inside the negative spaces...We had so much fun :)

Here are a few photographs of our wonderful morning and the artwork produced!

This afternoon, we were very lucky to have a visit from Andrea and Kenny. Andrea is a member of Virgin Atlantic Cabin Crew and Kenny is a Pilot for Jet2. The children enjoyed listening to their work day routines and we compared this to the flight Amelia Earhart took over the Atlantic Ocean. We had great fun learning about the health and safety procedures, the different seating areas on a plane, celebrity passengers they have had on board and the destinations they have visited. We finished off by asking lots of interesting questions to find out even more and tried on some uniform. Please enjoy looking through our pictures and chatting to your child about their fun afternoon!

Year 4 Outdoor learning, by Miss Hughes

In preparation for Anti-bullying week in November, we have been thinking about our words and actions and how they affect others.  In our outdoor learning lesson, Year 4 looked at the difference between being rude, being mean and bullying.

We role played scenarios and talked about how we could use kind words and how we could do things differently. We loved talking openly about our feelings today can’t wait to share kindness with others.

Year 6 African Drumming Workshop, by Miss M Jones

Date: 18th Oct 2021 @ 11:31am

Year six had the absolute pleasure of attending a special drumming workshop on Monday! We learned about lots of different percussion instruments and their West African heritage. Then, we had a go at some call and response drumming: our leader shouted, "I like chips for tea!" and we had to shout back, "He likes chips for tea!" all whilst drumming to each word! After a few practice rounds of responding to different calls, we then performed in classes to the rest of Year 6 what we had learned. What a fantastic experience!
