We had a great day learning all about the history of transport at Liverpool Museum and going on the train, ferry and bus. Here are some highlights of our day.

Year 2 - Designing Dazzle Vehicles

Year 2 have been busy making their own vehicles using Dazzle designs. They had to use axles, axle holders and a chasis. The children enjoyed sawing their own axles to stick wheels onto. 

 

 

2B’s Liverpool Transport Museum Trip, by Miss Mulheirn

We had a wonderful day at the Museum of Liverpool! We had the opportunity to see various modes of transport from the past and present. We even got to sit in an old, overhead train whilst wearing old fashioned hats. Getting the ferry back to Seacombe was a pleasure. The view was spectacular and we spotted lots of patterns created by the artist Peter Blake. What a super trip we had!

2B's Dazzle Patterns, by Miss Mulheirn

Over the last few weeks we have been studying colour and pattern. We have experimented to make tints by adding white and tones by adding black. We then designed our own 'Dazzle Patterns' in the style of Peter Blake. Here we are enjoying painting our patterns!

We had a marvellous time at the zoo on Wednesday. Despite the rain we managed to see so many animals. There were lots of tired children and adults on Wednesday evening.

Poppy Pebbles for Remembrance Day, by Mrs Walters

To  mark 100 years since the end of the First World War the children have been painting poppies onto pebbles to create a commemoratice garden at lower site.

Mrs Senior created the pebble garden this morning and added a beautiful wreath to the centre with some of the children.

Each year group has been learning about Remembrance Day and we are very grateful tothe Wallasey Churches Together group who are supporting our work throughout November. 

Year 1/2 Reading Breakfast, by Mrs Horton

Thank you to all the parents and children that joined us for the reading breakfast at the library this morning. It was great to see children and adults sharing stories and having fun. Our friends at the library made us all feel so welcome and provided us with delicious pastries, toast, fruit and yoghurts. 

Please remember to use our local library. There are so many fantastic books waiting to be read and the children do enjoy visiting.

Year 1and 2 Harvest Assembly , by Mrs Horton

The children in year 1 and 2 celebrated Harvest today with a special assembly. Year 1 performed a poem about harvest food. In year 2 some children performed their poems that they had written during National Poetry Day and some children performed a food related song and dance.

Thank you to all of the children who have brought in donations of non-perishable food. These foods will be donated to the Wirral Neo Community Cafe. More information about this charity can be found here: www.neocommunitycafe.org.uk

We will still be collecting food on Monday.

Author Visit Gareth P. Jones, by Mrs Horton

Gareth P. Jones has entertained the children today in years 2,3 and 4. The children have enjoyed singing songs with him to go with his books. They particularly enjoyed hearing Gareth’s jokes from his new book ‘The Daily Joker’ and some of our children impressed us with their joke telling!

Gareth will leave some books that will be available for sale after school £5 each.

The children have had a fantastic morning and Gareth was certainly very inspirational to listen to.

Football success, by Mrs Walters

Congratulations to our year 2 footballers who took part in a schools tournament at Liscard Primary this morning.

Both teams won through to the semi final where they played each other! In the final we were beaten by Liscard Primary but came away with runner up medals.

All the children enjoyed themselves and showed great team spirit and their behaviour was excellent as always. Well done to everyone who took part!

On Thursday 4th October Gareth P Jones will be visiting our school to talk to the children about his books. He will be bringing a selection of books along with him including his new book 'The Daily Joker'.

Gareth is an award winning author and  has written many books including The Considine Curse, The Thornthwaite Inheritance, The Ninja Meerkats, Steampunk Pirates and Dinosaur Detectives.

If children would like to purchase a book they can bring along their money in a sealed envelope. Books are £5 each or 2 for £8 if purchasing a copy of The Daily Joker and one other book.

Letters have gone home to children from F2 to Year 6 today regarding Free School Meals.

You may be eligible for Free School Meals even if your child is currently in years F2 to Year 2 and receives a universal free school meal.

Parent's Mental Health Support Group, by Mrs Walters

A parent's support group has been set up for any local parents with a child or vulnerable adult with mental health issues.

The first meeting is on Wednesday 12th September at the Community Soul Coffee Shop, in Wallasey Village, from 7pm to 9pm. 

Dance fun for year 1 and 2, by Mrs Walters

Some of our year 1 and 2 children had a great time at Mount Primary this afternoon taking part in a dance event.

They joined four other schools learning new techniques and then choreographed their own routine.

They all had a fabulous time and as always behaviour was exemplary.

Help for Heroes Success, by Mrs Walters

Thank you to everyone who sponsored our children for their Help For Heroes/Saxon Roundhouse fundraiser yesterday.

The children had a brilliant time tackling our obstacle courses at both sites. If you could send any sponsor money in by 8th June we would be very grateful.

Year 2 Assessment meeting for parents, by Mrs Horton

The Year 2 assessment meeting for parents will take place in the school hall tonight at 5pm. For those parents unable to attend the powerpoint is available on the year 2 page of the school website. The meeting is to explain statutory assessments for children at the end of Key Stage One.

Author visit and book signing, by Mrs Walters

We had a very successful visit from author Josh Lacey today. He spoke at several assemblies and did some wonderful workshops for our year 3 children.

The children loved his Dragon stories and the book sale and signing after school were a great success. We do have a few more books in school if anyone would like to buy a copy before the Easter holidays. 

Gymnastics Easter Egg Hunt, by Mrs Walters

New Brighton Gymnastics Club will be holding an easter Egg Hunt and Fun Day to fundraise for the Junior World Championships in America.

Several St George's pupils have made it to the championships and the club would love to see as many pupils at the fun day as possible.

We will be holding a coffee morning at school for any parents who would like to come and chat with our school linked CAMHS (Child and Adolescence Mental Health Service) workers. 

The coffee morning will be held on Tuesday 6th March from 9am to 10am in our Foundation Building.
